A new exhibition by artist Petalia Humphreys.
Working with hard-edge abstraction, Petalia’s practice merges painting and sculptural form. Positioned exactingly on the edge of Lake Cootharaba, a two metre high structure with a cut out that allows the viewer to ‘frame’ the landscape ‐ the corresponding ‘cut out’ pieces fallen from the void become seats from which to view the lake and horizon line. As the viewer considers the work from alternative perspectives compositional forms align, creating perceptual shifts – the painted geometry of the surface syncing with lines in the natural and built environment.
